For many of us, one of the most valuable assets we have will be our home. And especially in a
state like Nebraska, where homeowners insurance loss ratio’s are almost double the national average, it’s a good idea to prepare for the unexpected! Whether you are buying a new home or you have already paid off your mortgage, you may have wondered about the value of home insurance. As with all types of insurance, it can feel painful to shell out money month after month for an intangible product. However, homeowners insurance helps protect that investment — and you — in a variety of ways.
Homeowners Insurance consists of coverages that aid in paying the damage, repairing or
replacing your belongings if they are damaged due to weather, theft, water, fire,
and other perils. It also covers not just your home but it can also cover your personal
belongings inside your home or personal liability if you’re held legally responsible for damage
or injury to someone else.
Not all homeowners insurance policies are the same, and your agent can help you be sure you
have a policy that is tailored to you and your own situation. It’s important to talk to your
agent and ask questions. Not all policies are the same and vary in their exclusions and limits.
It’s surprising how many people only look at the price and don’t ask questions or understand
the difference between different policies and coverages. Do your research and ask
questions …. your homeowners insurance policy could be the best thing you will ever buy--and
hope you will never have to use!
